Rollers Fundraiser a huge success

The West Coast Rollers had their inaugural Bowls Day Fundraiser at the Mobray Bowls Club on September 24 – and judging by the feedback, it will be the first of many more to come.

Though not quite as big as we initially hoped, it still proved a massively exciting and fruitful exercise, with the Rollers’ coffers growing by a ‘not-to-be-sneezed-at’ R5300.

The initial problem was ridding the game of it’s ‘old man’s marbles’ stigma, but that is not aan issue we will have next year. Everyone had a ball of a time, with some even enquiring at the local bowls clubs about membership.

The dress-up portion of the day also worked out well, with us having everything from douchebags, to netball teams, to hippies, to fisherman. Untimately, it was the Neonaters (the Nickys and friend) who tooked the Best Dressed award, though it was as much for their dress code as their ‘most bowls played’.

Winning the main competition was Neville and his dad and stepmother, beating another Cooper in the final, Ryan and his netball team.

At the after match raffle draw, Slang walked away with the fussball table, and some other cool prizes were distributed as we reflected on a great day.

About West Coast Rollers

Founded in the early-90s, the West Coast Rollers is a social cricket side that has become so much more than that - we are a brotherhood that just happen to be quite good at cricket and even better at drinking.
